“Over My Dead Body”
On Fox News Sunday, Rudy Giuliani was asked by Chris Wallace if he would let Trump talk to Robert Mueller. His response, “Over my dead body, but, you know, I could be dead,” https://politi.co/2S0hV9D
Can you blame him? Giuliani has been criticized pretty soundly for his poor defense of the President. However, his not allowing President Donald Trump to talk to Mueller is his best move yet.
President Trump hasn’t exactly been the most truthful person since entering the Oval Office. In fact, a new poll from The Washington Post says less 40% of Republicans actually believe the President’s claims, “Fewer than 3 in 10 Americans — including fewer than 4 in 10 Republicans — believe these or several other prominent claims by the president, according to the poll. Only among a pool of strong Trump approvers — about 1 in 6 adults in the survey — did large majorities accept several, though not all, of his falsehoods as true” https://wapo.st/2rDxpEW
No competent attorney would let Trump anywhere near Mueller. General Michael Flynn is a smart man with 30 years in the United State Military. As Andrew McCarthy of the National Review explains even Flynn in a moment of stupidity, lied to the FBI, “The political explosiveness of the sanctions topic explains why Flynn would lie to Vice President Pence and other Trump officials — and those lies gave him additional motive to lie to the FBI in order to keep his story straight…The information Flynn gave was inaccurate, he told a U.S. court he lied, he had a motive to lie, and his current position is that he was duped into lying. Sounds to me like he lied.” http://bit.ly/2QWzeej
Flynn is a smart decorated military officer who has built a career on being honest. Even he got flustered and lied to the FBI. Trump, on the other hand, is a serial liar. Trump lies so often he seems to sometimes lie just for the sake of lying. I’m not sure how Giuliani is handling other aspects of this case but keeping Trump away from Mueller is the smartest thing he has ever done.
