On Saturday night, Speaker Tim Moore called for the mobilization of the National Guard in North Carolina to deal with the “utter lawless” happening across the state,
“The senseless destruction of businesses and property must be stopped at once. I am calling on Governor Cooper to immediately send in the National Guard. As I am posting this I literally am hearing semiautomatic gunfire, hearing glass windows being smashed and shouts from rioters. Unbelievable this has not been stopped.”

Backing up Moore, Lt Governor Dan Forest also called on Governor Cooper to immediately enforce the laws in the state to “stop the destruction that we are seeing at home,”
Committing injustice to protest injustice serves no purpose, can bring no peace, start no meaningful dialogue, and drives a wedge between a society that so desperately needs to unite…”

Finally, at his 4pm press conference Governor Roy Cooper announced the National Guard was being deployed and were available for local officials by request,
The Guard will support local authorities and help safeguard the lives and property of North Carolinians and the ability for individuals to exercise their right to peacefully demonstrate,

Many are hoping that this increase in force will bring peace to North Carolina instead of more violence.
