A lot of Republicans don’t like Bill Maher and for good reason. Maher hates Donald Trump and disagrees with many of the tenets of the Republican party. However, there is one issue where Maher has bravely stood against his fellow liberals on and that is the issue of free speech. Being a comedian, Maher knows how important free speech and the right to offend is to not only his livelyhood but also America. Maher has many times called out the Political correctness above all else mantra of the Democratic party and liberalism. Over the weekend, Bill Maher did it again. He said the virus did come from China and that their culture is responsible. Maher made it very clear this is not a license to be racist to Chinese-Americans but he did call a spade a spade and that deserves accolades. He stood up, again, to his party and ideology and they undoubtedly will criticize him for this.
China is a dictatorship that, for decades, enforced a one child per family policy under penalty of forced sterilization. But they can’t close down the farmer’s market from hell? #CoronaVirus #WetMarkets pic.twitter.com/pvkfhdTk4i— Bill Maher (@billmaher) April 11, 2020
The criticism has begun. Marlow Stern at The Daily Beast called it a “despicably racist rant,”
Yes, Bill Maher, there will always be idiots out there who want to indulge their prejudices. And tonight, that idiot was you.The Daily Beast
Bill Maher did get some praise for his monologue from an unlikely source, Ted Cruz…
Important @billmaher rant on the culpability of the Chinese Communist govt for the Wuhan pandemic. And on the need to close wet markets NOW. Strong language, but he’s one of very few in Hollywood willing to call out the CCP. https://t.co/vUtkqiJtjx— Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) April 11, 2020
Not entirely sure how Maher will feel about his unlikely ally in the battle over PC culture
