We have a countdown to a showdown to a avoid a shutdown in Washington.
Yesterday, Congress sent President Trump a short-term spending bill to move back the deadline for a partial government shutdown, setting up a big fight over the border wall just before Christmas.
The legislation sets a new deadline of Dec. 21.
Without the short-term bill, the spending deadline would be Friday at midnight. But lawmakers this weekend agreed to a two-week extension.
The Washington Post reports that the Democrats have given Trump two options, “Schumer and Pelosi on Thursday proposed extending funding at current levels for the Department of Homeland Security through the end of the budget year — which would allocate about $1.3 billion for border security and fencing for 2019. Schumer said Trump’s other option would be to accept a bipartisan bill negotiated in the Senate providing $1.6 billion for border security and fencing…” https://wapo.st/2G3VhM6
President Trump had been demanding 5 billion dollars for a wall. However, that number have been adjusted upward according to a tweet from President Trump this week, “Could somebody please explain to the Democrats (we need their votes) that our Country losses 250 Billion Dollars a year on illegal immigration, not including the terrible drug flow. Top Border Security, including a Wall, is $25 Billion. Pays for itself in two months. Get it done!” http://bit.ly/2QHr1KY
