Amazon Releases Shortlist for HQ2

Amazon has officially released its shortlist for their second headquarters and North Carolina made the cut…

But the list isn’t exactly short. The 20 potential cities include Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Columbus, Ohio, Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, Montgomery County in Maryland, Nashville, Newark, New York City, Northern Virginia, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Toronto and Washington D.C.

Last year, Amazon (AMZN) received bids from 238 cities and regions from across 54 states, provinces, districts and territories across North America. The company said it would make a decision in 2018.

There are so many reasons I hate this story.  First off, I wish Jeff Bezos would just drop the charade.  Anyone with a brain knows this is 100% theatrics.  Jeff Bezos is making decisions for Amazon thinking 20-30 years into the future.   The idea that the Bezos doesn’t know exactly where he is going to locate HQ2 is without logic.  He’s playing the press, mayors, and governors for fools.  Just tell us where you are going to put it and get on with it.

As ridiculous as the press is being they can’t hold a candle to the politicians.  Mayors and governors across the state are bending over backwards to look like lapdogs for Amazon and Jeff Bezos.  Some of the proposals that we have seen are just pathetic and I have to imagine those are probably better than the ones that haven’t been released.  I really want to know what North Carolina is offering.  We offered the Toyota-Mazda peeps 1.5 billion dollars.  Can you imagine what we are offering Amazon?  Other states and cities have made their offers public I think we should too in North Carolina.  Governor Roy Cooper would never allow this because I’m betting the offer is massive and insanely stupid.  Bezos is unlikely to choose North Carolina so we will probably never know but one can only imagine.
